Berlin Express Summary

Hiro is a 20 years old Japanese student who is on a study year abroad program. He has an InterRail Ticket, which is a ticket he can use to travel anywhere in Europe.

He is sitting on a train which travels to Köln and also reading an American thriller. There, he met a woman who asked him about why he is traveling alone. The true is that Hiro recently broke up with his girlfriend named Akiko because there was a photo of his dog Yuki at his screensaver.

When Hiro arrived to Köln, he decided to get the train to Berlin where he met a mysterious man who reminded Hiro of a shark. Unfortunately, the man sat down opposite Hiro, making him feel uncomfortable.

Suddenly the train braked sharply making a woman fell across the table and causing a confusion with both cellphones. Hiro read unintentionally a message from the mysterious man's cellphone and he started to thinking the man could be a bad person.

Erik Björson, the man, introduced himself and suggested he could take Hiro to the best way to get to Kreuzberg. Hiro accepted his offer and followed the Shark. Once on the platform, Hiro moved back from the edge of the platform but the Shark took his arm and helped him. After that, Hiro climbed the new train and left the Shark behind. The next morning, Hiro felt very angry for being afraid with an old man, so he decided to go to the police station.
